Context: Taiwan faced its biggest earthquake in at least 25 years
Ring of fire:
- A string of hundreds of volcanoes and earthquake-prone sites along Pacific Ocean.
- It forms a semicircle or horseshoe shape spanning nearly 40,250 kilometers.
- Marks the meeting points of various tectonic plates.
- Traverses through 15 countries.
Reason for numerous earthquake and volcano in the Ring of fire: Frequent earthquakes and abundance of volcanoes is due to tectonic plate movement especially subduction where one plate is forced beneath another.
